Everyone experiences anxiety. It is a natural emotion, flagging up feelings of worry, fearfulness, and alarm that danger or a sudden, threatening situation is near. Yet sometimes anxiety becomes an exaggerated, unhealthy response.
Given the ‘assault’ of surging changes facing an average adolescent, anxiety often vibrates, like a background noise. For some young people, anxiety becomes a chronic, high pitched state, interfering with their ability to hold a thought process, attend school, or even to perform to their academic potential. Participating in extracurricular activities, making and keeping friends, and maintaining a supportive, flexible relationship within the family become difficult.
Sometimes anxiety, presents as generalised, free-floating feelings of uneasiness. At other times, it develops into panic attacks and/or irrational fears (phobias).
These feelings can manifest as physical symptoms; including, but not wholly limited to: headaches, insomnia, stomach cramps, excessive fears or concerns, feelings of inner restlessness, and a tendency to be excessively wary and vigilant. Even in the absence of an actual threat, some young people describe feelings of continual nervousness, restlessness, or extreme stress. They can also seem to be withdrawn or shy.
Occasionally, they may avoid usual activities or refuse to engage in new experiences. They may become image obsessed, or protest whenever they are apart from friends. In an attempt to diminish or deny their fears, they may engage in risky behaviours, drug experimentation, or (in ‘older’ adolescents) impulsive sexual behaviour.
My belief is that young people can receive a multi faceted benefit from hypnosis incorporated with some talking therapy, they are highly suggestible, and once they feel ‘safe and contained’ they will confidently share their concerns and worries with me.
Usually receiving several sessions can offer young people tools to use when they are feeling threatened or challenged by various situations and conflicts. Please note: Hypnosis is subjective, and every person has their own experience. Some clients need more sessions than others, the average length of therapy is 2-8 sessions.
WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY?
CAN IT HELP?
The word hypnosis derives from the Greek word for “sleep”.
In clinical hypnosis, the patient is in an altered state of consciousness between sleep and wakefulness. When we use certain stimuli, mental processes are activated, and I can then treat various psychological disorders.
I will bring you, the patient, into a hypnotic or trance-like state. Using various words and associations of ideas that will change your thought patterns or behaviors. Your open mind and positive attitude will play a key role in the success of your therapy - you must have the desire to participate and be fully guided during the sessions.
Having described the process of hypnosis and reviewing your treatment goals. I will typically talk in a gentle, soothing tone and describe images that create a sense of relaxation, security, and well-being.
When you are in a receptive state, I will suggest ways for you to achieve your goals, helping you visualize vivid, meaningful mental images of yourself accomplishing your goals.
When the session is over, I will help you end your state of relaxation.
This is a technique aimed at supporting you to enable changes in your deep set beliefs and experiences, some of these have been held for a long while. By re-shaping your mindset, the knock on effect of these positive shifts in change, will help your perception of the original problem, and also help in other areas of your life
This unique, advanced form of hypnotherapy tackles the root cause of a problem. By resolving the fundamental reasons why your symptoms exist, your unconscious mind can start working for your benefit. This is particularly useful for those that have experienced subconscious resistance.
Neuro-Linguistic-Programming combined with coaching can help you to gain clarity over how you really want to feel. We can identify obstacles that get in your way and can provide you with practical tools and techniques to take back control of your thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How long will a session last?
Your first session would be around 90 minutes long to really spend time discussing your needs and expectations. Moving forwards each session will then be between 50-60 minutes long thereafter.
How many sessions so I need?
This varies from person to person and also depending on how deep rooted a belief or addiction is. Sometimes we can resolve things in one or two sessions, other issues or circumstances may take several, but as a general rule most people benefit from 4-8 sessions.
Will I lose control under hynosis?
No. it is not possible to ‘make’ or enforce any behaviour or belief system that you do not already hold. For example, you could not be hypnotised to rob a bank or bark like a dog, as these are not in your general personality to do so. You, ultimately remain in complete control of yourself at all times.
Does hypnotherapy work for everyone?
No. it has an average 88% success rate. Hypnosis is not a ‘silver bullet’ to cure everything for everyone, but it can have amazing results that have great staying power. Some people need ‘top ups’ over periods of months or years, and others just need a couple of sessions once only. I am fully invested in you to help support you through whatever your predicament is; all I ask is you be fully on board in return.
Can you guarantee results?
I can guarentee to give you the best of my services at all times. Ensuring you have the best possible positive experience I can offer. As mentioned above; it is not a magic wand, but between us we will work very hard to resolve your issues.
Can sessions be conducted online?
Yes we can if that suits better. However, a face to face session will always be my preferred medium; there are no reasons why online therapy will have a detrimental affect. Infact, for some, online may be their only option to work with me, whether that’s because of COVID, distance or any other reason.
