grief
Grieving a lost family member, friend or pet is an extremely personal journey. After the initial shock (of sudden or unexpected loss) we can experience an overwhelming sadness. Then maybe denial, anger, or abandonment, then we generally travel down depression and acknowledgment that ‘it’ actually happened and they aren’t walking back through the door. This can take months or years. Some struggle to move past a certain point, others ‘go off the rails’ for a period of time; or simply shrink in on themselves, and metaphorically roll up into a ball and stay there to wait for it to pass. Losing a loved one is one of the most traumatic incidents of life. Inevitable, but we can never be truly prepared enough for it. To lose a pet is just as heart breaking - let’s be honest - who of us doesn’t humanise our pets? For some people; elderly, single, or already bereaved, our beloved pets are all we have. This makes the journey no less painful. Sometimes you may feel embarrassed to be ‘stuck’ in your grief. If we try to keep these huge feelings of loss inside, if we choose not to share or downplay our sadness, we suppress what can only lead to more sadness and, ultimately, additional depression/anxiety/insomnia.
Things we do to numb our feelings, self medication can include but is not restricted to:
Comfort eating,
Heavy drinking,
Medication (prescription or over the counter),
Taking risks with personal safety,
Self harm **(If this should be a trigger for you, it is strongly advised you seek medical support as soon as possible)

WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY?
CAN IT HELP?
The word hypnosis derives from the Greek word for “sleep”.
In clinical hypnosis, the patient is in an altered state of consciousness between sleep and wakefulness. When we use certain stimuli, mental processes are activated, and I can then treat various psychological disorders.
I will bring you, the patient, into a hypnotic or trance-like state. Using various words and associations of ideas that will change your thought patterns or behaviors. Your open mind and positive attitude will play a key role in the success of your therapy - you must have the desire to participate and be fully guided during the sessions.
Having described the process of hypnosis and reviewing your treatment goals. I will typically talk in a gentle, soothing tone and describe images that create a sense of relaxation, security, and well-being.
When you are in a receptive state, I will suggest ways for you to achieve your goals, helping you visualize vivid, meaningful mental images of yourself accomplishing your goals.
When the session is over, I will help you end your state of relaxation.
